In 2021, the Organic Research Centre (ORC) established the Young Organic Farmer/Grower of the Year (YOFGY) Award to recognise and celebrate the remarkable achievements of young leaders in the organic farming community, and to encourage the emergence of a new generation of organic farmers and growers. By honouring individuals who prove themselves to be forward-thinking, innovative farmers/growers passionate about implementing organic principles, ORC aims to inspire and empower the future stewards of sustainable agriculture.
The YOFGY Award is open to individuals under the age of 40 who are actively involved in organic farming or growing initiatives, regardless of certification status. Nominees should exemplify strong leadership qualities, a passion for implementing organic principles, and a commitment to promoting biodiversity within the agricultural sector.
Key Dates for the 2024 YOFGY Award:
The winner of the YOFGY Award will be selected by a panel convened by ORC, consisting of members of the ORC team, Trustees, and respected figures from the farming community. In addition to the prestigious recognition, the 2024 YOFGY Award winner will receive a donated cash prize of £1,500 from ORC.
“We are delighted to run the YOFGY Award again in 2024 and shine a spotlight on the incredible contributions of young organic farmers and growers,” said Lucy MacLennan, CEO at ORC. “Through this initiative, we aim to foster innovation, inspire future generations, and drive positive change within the organic farming community.”
Nominations for the YOFGY Award are currently open, and individuals are encouraged to submit their applications or nominate deserving candidates.
