We are thrilled to announce that renowned environmentalist and campaigner, Vicki Hird, has joined the Organic Research Centre as a Trustee.
Vicki brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Organic Research Centre, having dedicated her career to advocating for sustainable agriculture and environmental protection. Vicki’s understands the challenges facing the organic sector since initiating the organic targets bill, aimed to increase organic land in the UK, making her an invaluable addition to our Board of Trustees.
Donald Peck, Chair of The Board of Trustees said “Vicki will help us increase our focus on sustainability and on wildlife in relation to farming, due to her highly successful work at Sustain and her current responsibilities dealing with Agriculture at the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts, a very warm welcome to her”.
Vicki’s appointment comes at a crucial time for the Organic Research Centre as we continue to lead the way with independent research and development for organic farming and promoting the benefits for all. Her expertise will be instrumental in guiding our work and ensuring that our research aligns with the pressing farming and environmental challenges of our time.

Vicki has been aware of Organic Research Centre’s work for many years and her role will allow her to provide strategic guidance and support to the Centre’s mission to deliver the transition to naturally healthy and resilient farming systems. Strengthening our advocacy work and policymaking to amplify the voice of organic farming and influence decision-makers.
Vicki’s response to her appointment “Since I agreed to become a Trustee, I have looked at the true essence of what organic is and what it can deliver for the farmer, consumer, animals and nature through research. The organic sector has always had its challenges, but I think particularly acute now because we’ve got such a huge wave of support for regenerative. I look forward to supporting Organic Research Centre’s research so the sector can hold its own and be recognised for its successes helping to shape the future of UK farming.”
