Save The Date! For one week only (18 – 25 April 2024), have your donation doubled and help raise funds for ORC’s Feed The Soil Project

ORC is taking part in the Big Give Green Match Fund campaign again this year. This time to raise £100,000 in just one week for our Feed the Soil project. Donations given to the Feed the Soil appeal in the campaign week, 18 – 25 April, will be generously matched by both The Mark Leonard Trust and The Reed Foundation. This means any donation you make will be doubled!

Six million hectares of soil in the UK are at risk of degradation, leading to increased environmental hazards such as droughts, floods, water pollution, biodiversity loss and reducing the soil’s ability to sequester carbon. Additionally, poor soil health negatively affects food quality which in turn can exacerbate chronic illnesses.

In response to alarming soil health decline in the UK, ORC is partnering with The Land Gardeners on a project to explore organic composting methods to restore soil health and sustainability at farm scale. A comparison of different composting methods and application strategies under robust, controlled, conditions will be undertaken, so that clear guidance for farmers can be developed.

The Feed The Soil project is budgeted at £200,000 and is anticipated to be delivered over 2 years. By participating in the Big Give Green Match fund we hope to raise half our project target, £100,000 in just one week!

In order to unlock the £50,000 we have in the Big Give matching pot, we need to raise £50,000 in online donations during campaign week. We hope that all our supporters will give generously this year so that we can take the action urgently needed to restore UK’s soil.
