Agricology has kicked off a new series of Technical Guides with this guide designed to support farmers in making informed decisions about adopting living mulches in arable systems. It draws together farmer experience and research from Innovative Farmers and the Organic Research Centre to answer farmers’ questions on how best to implement living mulches. Its aim is to provide practical guidance and clarity across the key stages of the process, outlining the necessary actions, considerations, and potential risks at each step. It includes alternative strategies for those working within conventional systems, as well as organic and low-input arable farming.
A detailed case study covers Matt England’s observations and reflections from trialling living mulches on the Fring Estate in Norfolk.
Alongside the Technical Guide Agricology have created a Living Mulches Hub, which pulls together a wide range of resources; videos, webinars, research papers, tools and reports on living mulches, for those who wish to delve deeper into the topic.
