Secretary of State David Miliband’s new regime of openness and transparency seems not
to have survived the old MAFF miasma of cynicism and disingenuity that still hangs
around Defra. Slipping out the details of the proposed GM co-existence regime on a hot
afternoon at the fag end of the Parliamentary session (with a consultation period that
largely takes place during the holiday season) is more in keeping with the old guard –
who thought stakeholders were something to do with cattle – rather than the new style
bloggers.
