“The whole and its parts – Researching Biodynamic Agriculture”

To advance the sustainable transformation of food and farming, the complex and holistic endeavour of agriculture requires research across a plurality of knowledge systems and dimensions.

Biodynamic agriculture is an approach to farming based on cooperation with nature and natural processes. Preceding the development of organic farming and Agroecology, it continues to provide both an alternative conceptual basis and practice for the sustainable transformation of food and farming systems.

Biodynamic agriculture is about taking responsibility for life on this planet. It is about striving to maintain relationships of balance, recognising that humans are an integral part of the communion of beings, all of whom are alive and conscious. The biodynamic approach recognises the socio-cultural, and spiritual dimensions of farming.

Research in Biodynamic agriculture calls for a holistic perspective, not only to consider the manifold dimensions of farming but also to acknowledge the potential contribution of different knowledge systems to really understand, develop and transform.

We invite all researchers with an interest in Biodynamic agriculture to meet and share at the 3rd International Biodynamic Research Conference that will be held at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester (UK) from August 31st to September 4th 2025.

With the aim of discovering the potential of new perspectives in research on biodynamic agriculture, special emphasis will be placed on holistic approaches and study concepts. We welcome not only research on different dimensions of biodynamics, such as ecology, art, humanities or economics but also the application of different methodologies and knowledge systems.

Various formats for discussion and exchange on different dimensions of biodynamic agriculture will be organised throughout the conference, and participants are invited to co-create this space by proposing papers and workshops for the conference.
