The LWA are delighted to be hosting Agricola Farm Co-operative from Quebec in Canada for this session. 

Started in 2019, Agricola Cooperative Farm grows asparagus, mixed organic vegetables and flowers. Agricola is a worker’s cooperative managed collectively by four friends and young farmers: Heather, Hannah, Natalie and Caleb. Growing on approximately 3.5 acres, the cooperative markets their products through a CSA, farmer’s market, on-farm kiosk and a producer’s cooperative. 

This session, through using the excellent Agricola Farm as a case study, will look at:

• different systems for running a farm with a focus on co-operative and team working structures
• We will explore how do we create and practice empowering participatory dynamics where everyone involved in a farm, market garden or woodland is supported and enabled to flourish in their work in a truly fulfilling and engaging job, and avoiding burnout.
• We will look at practices and process for revolving responsibilities, peer-to-peer appraisals and managing conflict when it arises, and how to cultivate and navigate a sense of engagement in a farm project with seasonal staff. 
• We will also explore how to have a healthy farm-life balance, how to structure work dynamics and responsibilities if and when children become part of the project. 

ABOUT THE WEBINAR PROGRAMME

This webinar is a partnership between the CSA Network UK, the Seed Sovereignty Programme run by the Gaia Foundation, the Landworkers’ Alliance, and the Organic Growers Alliance and forms part of a webinar series funded by Farming the Future.

The webinar programme focuses on practical teaching and farmer-to-farmer knowledge exchanges from farmers and growers from around the UK. The series is designed to increase knowledge exchange and learning on both the politics and practice of agroecology, seed sovereignty and food sovereignty.
