Event Date : September 18, 2018
The meeting will have two parts. A discussion about how best to serve the needs of the small scale milling and bakery sectors and a farm walk focused on the benefits of Plant Teams
Currently the expectations of growers, millers and bakers are mismatched and this is hampering the development of this sector. By bringing growers and users of grain together to discuss the obstacles the aim is to gain insight and overcome these challenges.
This includes exploring the logistical & legislative challenges inherent in the artisanal sector. By understanding these different perspectives we can work together to strengthen the sector.
Slade Farm have experience growing high quality milling wheat which is supplied in small bags for the artisanal sector, supplied through an intermediary. They can explain the challenges they face in supplying small volumes of grain directly.
Learn about the specifications organic farmers are used to working to and how these differ from the requirements of millers.
Learn about a new Bagged Organic Grain supply that is replacing the work done by Howard Roberts over the last 10 years
The farm walk will focus on the Bean and Wheat Plant Team grown at Slade Farm but will also include other farm activities too.
The meeting will be informal, with participants from the most experienced to newcomers encouraged to share experiences—both positive and not so, with the aim of developing a better understanding be- tween producers and low volume local markets.
The event is free to attend but please book your place by calling Kathy on 08456 521 706 or emailing, katherine(at)organicarable.co.uk
