ORC is delighted to hear that ORC Trustee Professor Christine Watson has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Agricultural Society (FRAgS) in recognition of her outstanding and continuing contribution to the understanding, efficiency and wellbeing of UK agriculture.
Prof Christine Watson is a renowned expert in soil science and agronomy. Her work in organic farming systems, particularly that of nitrogen cycling, is widely celebrated for its impact on modern agricultural practices in a world aim to achieve net zero targets. As well as holding the position of Professor of Agricultural Systems at SRUC, she also holds a visiting professorship at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in the Department of Crop Production Ecology. Christine has had a long-standing relationship with ORC and has been a trustee since 2018.
Prof Wayne Powell, Principal and Chief Executive of SRUC, said her dedication, throughout her working life, and the groundbreaking work she’d achieved “exemplify and typify SRUC’s mission to drive sustainable and innovative advancements in agriculture”.
He said the recognition was a testament to the years of hard work she’d put in, and to the impact of her research on the global agricultural community.
