This webinar, part of an EU project, Liveseeding working on organic seed use and quality, and delivered by Bingenheimer Saatgut AG aims to explain the procedure, effects and efficiency of hot water treatments, critical points to avoid damaging seed, and equipment needed for treating seed on small and larger scales.
Hot water treatments are one method to sanitise seed in organic vegetable seed production. It is used to control seed-transmitted pathogens in several vegetable species and has been shown to be effective against fungal and bacterial plant pathogens. As this thermal treatment affects the inside layers of seeds with both heat and moisture, it needs to be mastered with care, know-how and experience, to avoid seriously degrading their germination capacity.
In this webinar Dr. Jelena Baćanović-Šišić, plant pathologist in Bingenheimer Saatgut AG in Germany will explain their procedure and share their experience with hot water treatments.
TOPICS THAT WILL BE COVERED:
– effects and efficiency of hot water treatments
– critical points to avoid damaging seed
– equipment for treating on small and larger scales
During the webinar, there will be time and space for participants’ questions and group discussions.
