Fertility building leys and green manures

Event Date : April 28, 2015

Iain Tolhurst and Mark Measures will be running the Duchy Originals Future Farming Programme (DOFF) Fertility Building Leys and Green Manures field lab for farmers and growers on 28th April at Whitchurch near Reading. We have good evidence and practical experience of the major benefits of diverse, multi-species mixtures for fertility building, forage production, pollinators and general resilience to unpredictable weather conditions. This field lab will share those experiences and set up trials that will:

  • Improve our selection of species
  • Assess the performance of multi-species mixtures under different conditions
  • Monitor the management prescriptions of the new Countryside Stewardship Multi-species Organic Option – worth £115/ha
